01 / PROJECT OVERVIEW

A Complete Digital Platform for Professional Tailoring Education

Savile Row Training Academy required much more than a conventional business website. The organisation combined professional tailoring education, practical workshops, specialist trade training, online learning and ecommerce, creating a digital project with several very different user journeys operating within one platform.

We designed and developed a substantial WordPress website for the London-based Academy, bringing its educational offer, digital courses, membership functionality, ecommerce and editorial content into a single structured experience.

The platform allowed prospective students to explore practical workshops and specialist training, purchase online courses, create an account and access protected learning materials. At the same time, customers could browse and purchase tailoring-related products through an integrated online shop.

Alongside the website, we developed the Savile Row Training Academy brand identity and logo, giving the entire project a consistent visual foundation inspired by the precision, craftsmanship and understated character of professional British tailoring.

Created in 2013 during our earlier Evident Art chapter, the project demonstrates experience across web design and development, WordPress, ecommerce, online education, membership platforms, UI/UX and brand identity that continues to inform the way KAIA Design approaches complex digital projects today.

02 / BRAND IDENTITY

A Visual Identity Built Around Precision and Craftsmanship

The Savile Row Training Academy identity was developed as part of the wider digital project, allowing the brand and website to grow from the same creative foundation.

We created a bespoke logo centred around an SR monogram, supported by strong typography and a deliberately restrained monochrome visual language. The direction reflected qualities closely associated with traditional British tailoring: precision, craftsmanship, confidence and attention to detail.

Generous white space, predominantly black-and-white imagery and carefully controlled typography gave the identity a sophisticated character without relying on decorative styling or unnecessary visual effects.

The same visual system was carried through the website, online learning content and wider Academy communications, creating a consistent identity capable of supporting both the educational and commercial sides of the organisation.

03 / WEBSITE ARCHITECTURE

Bringing Education, Membership and Commerce Into One Website

The scale of the Academy’s offer made website architecture and content organisation a central part of the project. The platform had to serve prospective students, existing members, professional organisations and ecommerce customers without making the website difficult to understand or navigate.

We created a clear structure connecting workshops, online courses, professional trade training, tutor profiles, members-only learning, ecommerce, galleries, competitions, newsletters and enquiries within one WordPress environment.

Each major area was given its own clearly defined role. Visitors could discover training without navigating through shop content, registered students could move directly into their learning environment, and ecommerce customers could browse products without disrupting the educational side of the website.

This separation also created stronger foundations for both user experience and search visibility. Important subjects, services and areas of expertise could be presented on dedicated pages with clear relationships between them rather than being compressed into a small number of general pages.

The same principle remains fundamental to our current approach to website architecture: a complex organisation becomes easier for people, search engines and modern discovery systems to understand when its information is organised around clear entities, topics and user intent.

04 / TRAINING EXPERIENCE

Making Specialist Tailoring Courses Easy to Discover

Practical workshops remained an important part of Savile Row Training Academy, so the website needed to make a broad programme of specialist training easy to explore and compare.

Dedicated course sections presented workshops covering areas such as introductory sewing, body measuring, pattern drafting, garment pressing, buttonholes and specialist tailoring techniques, alongside individually arranged training.

We used modular layouts, strong workshop photography and clear content hierarchy to separate individual training options while keeping the overall experience visually consistent.

The structure supported different audiences, from individuals wanting to learn a specific tailoring skill to experienced practitioners and organisations looking for more specialised professional development.

Rather than treating course information as a simple list, the website used content design and UI structure to help users understand what was available and move naturally towards the training most relevant to them.

05 / ONLINE LEARNING

Taking Savile Row Training Beyond the Classroom

One of the most advanced elements of the project was the Academy’s online learning platform, extending specialist tailoring education beyond classroom-based workshops and making structured training available directly through the website.

Dedicated online course pages combined programme information, pricing, terms and purchasing functionality with educational content. Students could discover a course, understand what it covered and purchase access within the same digital environment.

The example preserved in the archive shows an online Waistcoat course, combining instructional video and supporting information with a direct route to enrolment.

The interface remained intentionally restrained so that the teaching material remained the focus. Photography, typography, video and course information worked together without adding unnecessary visual complexity around the learning experience.

For a WordPress platform developed in 2013, integrating paid online courses, video learning and user accounts represented a substantial technical and UX component of the wider project.

06 / MEMBERSHIP PLATFORM

A Dedicated Learning Environment for Registered Students

Purchasing an online course was only the beginning of the digital learning journey. Registered students were given access to a dedicated members-only learning area within the WordPress platform.

Individual course units combined instructional video with written learning content, supporting tailoring photography and downloadable educational documents. This allowed students to return to structured materials and progress through their training within a consistent online environment.

The members area was designed as a practical educational space rather than simply a collection of password-protected pages. Video lessons, supporting information and downloadable resources were presented together as connected components of each learning unit.

User registration and login functionality supported the wider system, enabling new students to create accounts while existing members could return directly to their protected course content.

This combination of WordPress membership functionality and structured digital learning helped extend the Academy from a physical training organisation into a platform capable of delivering specialist education online.

07 / ECOMMERCE

WooCommerce for Courses, Products and Online Payments

Ecommerce was built into the wider Savile Row Training Academy platform rather than added as a separate online shop. The WordPress website used WooCommerce to support both digital course sales and tailoring-related products.

This created two connected commercial journeys. Students could move from discovering an online course directly into purchasing access, while other visitors could browse a conventional ecommerce catalogue containing ready-to-buy products with photography, descriptions and pricing.

Individual product pages provided larger imagery, additional product views, descriptive information, pricing and related products, creating a complete path from product discovery through to purchase and payment.

Keeping ecommerce within the same platform meant the Academy could manage training, digital content, memberships and commercial activity without fragmenting the customer experience across unrelated systems.

The shop also followed the same restrained visual identity as the rest of the website, demonstrating how WooCommerce development and ecommerce UX can support commercial functionality without allowing the technology to dominate the brand.

08 / PRODUCT EXPERIENCE

A Consistent Shopping Journey From Catalogue to Product Page

The ecommerce section was designed to feel like a natural extension of the Academy rather than a visually separate retail website.

A clean product catalogue allowed customers to browse tailoring-related items through a consistent grid of product photography, descriptions, pricing and purchase options.

From the catalogue, visitors could move into individual product pages containing larger imagery, additional views and more detailed product information. Related products provided a further route through the catalogue without interrupting the simplicity of the experience.

Typography, spacing and photographic treatment remained aligned with the wider Savile Row Training Academy identity, preserving the same understated visual language across educational content and ecommerce.

This consistency between brand, website and shop helped create a more coherent ecommerce user experience from first product discovery through to purchase.

09 / PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

A Digital Platform for Specialist Industry Training

Savile Row Training Academy also worked beyond consumer-facing workshops and online courses, providing professional trade training for organisations and people working within the tailoring industry.

A dedicated Trade Courses area presented programmes for small, medium and large companies, independent practitioners, educational establishments and industry suppliers.

Training could cover measuring, fitting, pattern drafting, garment construction, pressing, buttonholes, finishing and other specialist tailoring skills, allowing the Academy to communicate a much broader professional offer through the same website.

The challenge was to present substantial specialist information without creating visually heavy pages. Large tailoring photography, controlled typography and structured content helped turn technically detailed training information into a clear and approachable digital experience.

For us, the section represented another example of how web design for specialist and knowledge-led organisations depends on understanding information as much as visual presentation.

10 / CONTENT & COMMUNITY

Giving the Academy a Human and Editorial Dimension

The platform was designed to represent more than a catalogue of courses. It also created space for the people, craftsmanship and wider activity behind Savile Row Training Academy.

Individual tutor profiles combined portrait photography with professional biographies, connecting training programmes with the specialists responsible for delivering them and giving the organisation a stronger human presence online.

A dedicated visual gallery documented tailoring craftsmanship, garment construction, fittings, pattern work and the working environment surrounding the Academy. Rather than functioning purely as decoration, the photography helped communicate the practical nature and quality of the training.

The website also included a Competition and Prize Giving section for achievements, events and activity within the wider tailoring community, together with newsletter subscription and enquiry functionality.

These editorial and community-focused areas helped establish the website as a broader digital home for the Academy rather than simply a destination for course sales.

11 / SEARCH & TECHNICAL FOUNDATIONS

Search Foundations That Still Matter Today

Search has changed significantly since the Savile Row Training Academy platform was developed in 2013, but many of the foundations of an effective, discoverable website remain the same.

The project incorporated the technical SEO and on-page SEO principles appropriate to a substantial WordPress website of its time. This included logical page structure, clear navigation, crawlable content, descriptive page topics and dedicated areas for the Academy’s core activities.

Those foundations were particularly important because the platform brought together several distinct subject areas: tailoring workshops, online courses, professional trade training, tutor expertise, ecommerce products, competitions, editorial content and member-only learning. Organising these topics into clearly defined sections helped visitors understand the Academy’s offer while giving search engines stronger signals about the purpose and relationship of individual pages.

The website also included early Local SEO foundations. Savile Row Training Academy’s London location, business contact information, dedicated contact page and map provided clear geographic context and connected the organisation with the area in which it operated. These were practical local search signals rather than the more extensive Local SEO strategies we use today.

On-page SEO supported the same structure through clear page topics, headings, navigation and content organisation. Rather than placing workshops, courses, ecommerce and educational information into a small number of generic pages, the website created dedicated destinations for important areas of the Academy’s expertise and activity.

Following launch, we also provided post-launch technical support, helping ensure the WordPress, ecommerce and membership functionality continued to operate correctly as the platform moved into everyday use.

Today, our approach develops these foundations considerably further. Technical SEO, on-page SEO and Local SEO now work alongside information architecture, internal linking, structured content and entity relationships to create websites that are easier for people, search engines and modern discovery systems to understand.

AI Search Visibility and AI Search Optimisation extend that same principle into modern discovery. Search engines and AI systems increasingly need clear relationships between organisations, services, expertise, people, locations and content. The technology has evolved, but the underlying requirement remains familiar: information must first be technically accessible, clearly structured and placed in the right context before it can be reliably discovered and understood.

12 / FROM THE ARCHIVE

An Earlier Chapter of the Work We Continue Today

Savile Row Training Academy now forms part of the KAIA Design archive, preserving a substantial project from an earlier chapter of our studio history.

Created during the Evident Art era, the project brought together brand identity, WordPress development, ecommerce, online learning, membership functionality and UI/UX design within a single digital platform.

Technology has changed dramatically since 2013. WordPress and ecommerce platforms have evolved, online education has become mainstream and search now extends beyond traditional results into AI-powered discovery and increasingly connected digital ecosystems.

What has remained consistent is the thinking behind the work: understand the organisation, create a clear structure, communicate expertise effectively and use design and technology to support a real purpose.

Today KAIA Design continues that progression through Web Design & Development, SEO & Search Visibility and AI Search Optimisation, while our Design Archive documents the projects and experience that helped shape the studio we are today.
