A digital partnership built over more than a decade.
Our relationship with Turboworks Ltd began around 2014/15, when the business needed a straightforward website to support its growing turbocharger reconditioning operation in Eastbourne. What started as a relatively simple online presence has developed into one of KAIA Design’s longest-running digital partnerships.
Over the years, Turboworks has grown significantly. The company expanded its team, moved into much larger premises and developed beyond turbocharger reconditioning into the sale of reconditioned and new turbochargers, online ecommerce, fitting and workshop services. Its digital requirements evolved at the same pace.
Our role evolved with them. Rather than treating the website as a finished project, we have continued to support and develop the wider digital platform through web design, ecommerce development, SEO, content, branding, photography, technical support and ongoing website management.

Product catalogue growth
From a simple website to a serious ecommerce operation.
The first Turboworks website was created for a much smaller business and a very different stage of its development. A few years later, an early ecommerce solution was introduced, giving customers the ability to browse and purchase turbochargers online.
As Turboworks continued to expand, that early shop could no longer support the scale, functionality or ambitions of the business. By around 2021/22, a more capable ecommerce platform had become essential.
We designed and developed a new PrestaShop ecommerce website with a stronger product structure, clearer customer journeys and a much more flexible technical foundation. The store began with roughly 100 product listings and has since grown to around 600 products, predominantly turbochargers for a wide range of vehicles and applications.
The platform has continued to change since launch. New functionality, content, integrations and customer-facing improvements have been introduced as required, allowing the website to develop alongside both the company and the wider ecommerce market.
A platform designed to keep changing with the business.
For Turboworks, ecommerce development has never ended at launch. The website is an active sales platform that needs to respond to new products, changing customer expectations and the day-to-day requirements of a growing automotive business.
KAIA Design has provided end-to-end website and ecommerce support, covering the storefront itself as well as hosting, server management, content updates and ongoing development. Over time we have introduced new functionality, adapted existing features and refined customer journeys around the practical needs of the business.
This long-term approach means changes can be made when they are genuinely needed rather than waiting for another complete redesign. The platform continues to evolve through incremental improvements to usability, product presentation, ecommerce functionality, content and performance.
That flexibility has been particularly important as Turboworks has expanded beyond online turbocharger sales into fitting, workshop services and a broader range of products for customers across the UK and Europe.
From search visibility to a core source of customer acquisition.
SEO became a major part of the Turboworks digital strategy following the launch of the PrestaShop platform around 2021/22. Rather than treating search optimisation as a short-term campaign, we have developed it continuously alongside the ecommerce website.
Our work combines technical SEO, website architecture, category and product optimisation, search-focused content, internal linking, performance improvements and ongoing monitoring. This has helped build strong national visibility across both broad commercial searches and highly specific vehicle and turbocharger queries.
In 2025, the Turboworks website recorded more than 176,000 sessions, with almost 118,000 generated through Organic Search. Organic Search represented approximately 67% of all website traffic, making search one of the company’s most important digital customer acquisition channels.
Google Search generated more than 71,000 clicks and approximately 3.55 million search impressions during the same year. Current visibility is equally strong: in the latest 28-day Google Search Console data, 863 of the top 1,000 reported queries ranked within Google’s Top 10, with 272 ranking within the Top 3.

Visible where buying decisions begin.
The strength of the search strategy is visible not only in overall traffic, but in the commercial relevance of the queries bringing customers to the website. Turboworks achieves leading positions for national product searches as well as highly specific vehicle-related terms used by customers actively looking for replacement or reconditioned turbochargers.

A consistent brand across digital, print and the physical business.
Our work with Turboworks has always extended beyond the website. From the beginning of the partnership, we have supported the company with the visual and practical materials needed to present the business consistently across different customer touchpoints.
An existing low-resolution logo was initially refined for professional use, before we developed a new Turboworks logo in 2023. The wider visual work has included business cards, letterheads, promotional leaflets, warranty cards supplied with customer orders, large exterior signage and informational graphics used throughout the company’s premises.
We have also produced product photography for the ecommerce store and marketing materials, helping present turbochargers consistently and clearly online. Product imagery has become an important part of a catalogue where customers often need to compare technically similar components before purchasing.
Together, these elements help maintain a recognisable Turboworks identity across the website, product packaging, printed communication and the company’s physical workshop environment.
Rebuilding a business-critical ecommerce platform without losing what mattered.
In late 2025, Turboworks experienced a serious infrastructure problem driven by aggressive bot activity. Server resources were repeatedly pushed to their limits, creating performance and stability issues for a website that had become a critical part of the company’s day-to-day operation.
A simple website transfer was not enough. We carried out a complex rebuild and migration to a modern PrestaShop environment, while preserving the business data accumulated over years of ecommerce activity. Customers, orders, products, invoices and other essential records all needed to remain intact.
The migration required careful database work because the legacy and new platform structures were not directly interchangeable. Data tables and relationships had to be reviewed and adapted rather than relying on a standard export-and-import process.
At the same time, we protected one of Turboworks’ most valuable digital assets – its established organic search visibility. Existing product and page URLs were retained wherever possible, helping preserve the search equity built through years of SEO work while the underlying platform was replaced.

Protecting performance, data and the quality of the traffic we measure.
Following the rebuild, security and traffic management became an even more important part of our ongoing support. We introduced Cloudflare protection, custom security rules, traffic controls and ongoing monitoring to reduce the impact of abusive bots, scrapers and unnecessary automated traffic.
In 2026, additional geographic controls were introduced for regions outside Turboworks’ genuine target market. The aim was not to maximise the headline traffic number shown in Analytics, but to improve the quality of the traffic reaching the platform, protect server resources and make performance data more representative of real potential customers.
This reflects an important part of our approach to digital growth: quality is more valuable than vanity metrics. A smaller number of genuine customers is more useful to a business than inflated analytics created by automated traffic.
We would rather measure genuine customer visits than report traffic inflated by bots and scrapers.
Search visibility recovered - and continued to grow.
The infrastructure incident had an immediate impact, but the combination of platform recovery, SEO continuity and ongoing optimisation allowed organic visibility to rebuild quickly.
From the post-incident low in December 2025 to August 2026, Google Search clicks increased by more than 50%, while search impressions increased by over 56%.
The recovery demonstrates why technical management and SEO cannot be treated as completely separate disciplines on a mature ecommerce website. Protecting search performance meant protecting the platform, its data, its URLs and the customer experience at the same time.

An audience beginning to arrive through AI search.
The next stage of search visibility is already beginning to appear beyond traditional search engines. In 2026, Google Analytics started recording measurable referral traffic to Turboworks from AI assistants, showing that established website content and product information is increasingly being discovered through newer search experiences as well.

More than a website. A long-term digital partnership.
Turboworks is a strong example of how we prefer to work with growing businesses. A website does not remain static after launch, and neither do the challenges surrounding ecommerce, search visibility, security, content and customer expectations.
More than a decade after the first website, we continue to support Turboworks with ecommerce development, SEO, website management, content, technical infrastructure, security and ongoing improvements. Some changes are part of long-term development, while others respond to immediate business, market or technical requirements.
The platform today is very different from the website we started with in 2014/15, but the principle behind the partnership has remained the same: understand what the business needs now, solve problems when they arise and keep building for what comes next.
